Abstract
Aim: For 90% of urgent blood to be reported prior to 17:00 on Aspen Ward.
Aspen Ward is an eating disorders unit with a high requirement for blood testing in the patient cohort; often requiring multiple tests being requested and taken daily. Completing these tests in a timely manner (so results can be acted upon), can be challenging. Historically results
often return past 5pm when ward medical staff are typically not, or should not be, present. Blood testing can also take a significant amount of time, which can interfere with other clinical task and educational opportunities (ie. ward rounds, reviewing patients, writing reports etc). This project commenced with some improvements made in 2022/23 and stopped due to Dr rotation, when it recommenced in Jan 2025.

Project Impact:
100% of urgent blood results are returned by 17:00.
56% decrease in the average time taken for results to be returned (266 minutes to 118
minutes).
70% reduction in the variation of time taken for results to be returned (466 minutes to 143 minutes), allowing for better planning
