Abstract
Project Aim: To increase the recording of ethnicity on the Core Patient Record on Carenotes in Children’s Services from 77% in October 2024 to 85% by December 2025. When ethnicity isn’t recorded consistently, we lose a clear picture of our patients’ diversity and can’t use the data effectively. Accurate ethnicity information helps us understand health differences between groups and make sure everyone gets the best care. By improving how we record ethnicity, we can spot patterns in health outcomes, tackle inequalities, and provide better care for all. Tools Used: SPC Chart - https://aqua.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/qsir-statistical-process-control.pdf; Driver Diagram - https://aqua.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/qsir-driver-diagrams.pdf; PDSA Cycles - https://aqua.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/qsir-pdsa-cycles-model-for-improvement.pdf; Sustainability Model - https://aqua.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/qsir-sustainability-model.pdf. Project Impact: Ethnicity recording is showing continuous improvement over time. Since October 2024 ethnicity recording in children’s therapies as a whole has increased from 77% to 87%. Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy have exceeded the target, both increasing recording from 81% to 90%. Speech & Language Therapy have improved from 71% to 81%. CAMHS patients use the same waiting area for their appointments therefore the volunteers have also assisted in collecting ethnicity data for this group of patients.
