Abstract
Aim: To provide GPs with personalised response letters to reduce the number of inappropriate referrals, reduce time to appropriate treatment for the patient and increase GP confidence in regards to the perinatal patient population.
In the Perinatal Mental Health Team (PMHT), all referrals are discussed in MDT meetings weekly. It was felt that providing GPs with personalised letters with information about safe prescribing in pregnancy and evidence based resources would reduce inappropriate referrals. A large number of GP referrals are rejected due to; first line medication not being tried, not up-titrating dose or insufficient time given for medication to work.

Project Impact:
Data collected showed the bulk of inappropriate referrals lay elsewhere, and that these would not reduce as a consequence of the proposed intervention.
The QI process clarified that the data allowed for significant time being saved in actioning ineffective intervention.
However, results also demonstrate that the number of ‘ GP medication advice’ rejection letters are low and, as such,
may benefit from being personalised to educate GPs.
