Abstract
Project Aim: To reduce variation in demand and capacity to increase the capability of the team to complete all tasks within 809 hours per month. The Children in Care Nurses support young people to engage with health services, focusing on their specific health needs and undertaking statutory Health Reviews. The team used QI tools to assess their daily tasks, gathering data to help them understand various demands on their time vs actual capacity. They implemented many change ideas over the course of the project, streamlining their processes and reducing general admin time by 84 hours each month. Tools Used: Workload Assessments; Process Mapping - https://aqua.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/qsir-conventional-process-mapping.pdf; PDSA Cycles - https://aqua.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/qsir-pdsa-cycles-model-for-improvement.pdf; Driver Diagram - https://aqua.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/qsir-driver-diagrams.pdf; Pareto Chart - https://aqua.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/qsir-pareto.pdf; Setting theoretical capacity at 80%. Project Impact: The team have reduced waste and improved their processes; the time spent on general admin has reduced by 84 hours each month. The project findings could be used to put forward a business case to increase the team’s capacity.
