In our review of literature, it was noted that 15% of the patients undergoing surgical procedures have diabetes. Diabetes has shown an increased risk of development of post op complications, increase in hospital stays for patients undergoing surgery. The micro and macro sequel of diabetes could have well recognised adverse effects on wound healing. Although several bodies have produced guidelines for management of surgical patients with diabetes, there remains an implementation gap. The Dudley Trust's 2023 guidelines help doctors manage diabetic patients during elective surgery.
