In the UK, kidney cancer is the sixth most common cancer, comprising 4% of new cases. Since the first robot-assisted partial nephrectomy in 2002, robotic surgery has shown benefits such as instrument stabilisation, improved ergonomics, and superior visualisation. The uptake of robotic surgery in the UK and Europe has been rapid, with a fivefold increase in England from 2013 to 2018 and continued growth since. This study compares functional and oncologic outcomes between robot-assisted and laparoscopic renal surgery using a single surgeon to reduce inter-operator bias.Publisher
